Day Four-Crisis Communication

Today was the last day of the conference and I learned more about crisis communication. We were placed in groups for a crisis comm competition where we were given scenarios.

For information on the requirements of these events, look in the PRSSA regional conference handbook, the link can be found at:

(See Case Study Competition under Design a Unique Program in handbook)

We were tasked with devising a plan and present to a “client” (panel of professionals who will judge). Acting as the¬†companies PR pro we created a resolution and held a mock press conference. UVU representatives were key members in the winning teams.

I have never been exposed to a press conference environment, on anything even relatively close, so this was a great experience for me. I think my team did a great job and hit all of our points.

  • The Facts: Who, What, When, Where, Why
  • Include Key Messages
  • Convey Empathy
  • Conclude with Resolution

I feel that this conference in its entirety has been extremely beneficial and in this crisis communication exercise, I was able to gain new and great experiences.
